Hey Scott! Great topic and recap of albeit anecdotal observations. I am really looking forward to the follow ups! Regarding “money” spent on supplements, a few years ago I calculated the cost of 1g of protein from whey protein vs other food sources of protein and at that time whey was the cheapest when comparing gram for gram of actual protein and that includes the cheapest sources such as chicken breast and even egg whites from Costco. Also I really don’t consider protein powder a supplement,IMO it’s a food (single macro and highly processed) source like any other.

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

I totally agree my man. We could easily say that protein powder, vitamins, and minerals aren’t really supplements, but actual food broken down to it’s basic form. Yet the hardcore people will say, just eat real food and don’t waste your money on supplements. But I’m with you, I find that protein powder is a cost effective way of increasing our protein intake.

Yeah, I have. The only thing I really take is Multivitamins and protein shakes on occasion. The energy slows down pretty dramatically, and it makes me depressed.

Awesome experiment! I was so stoked to see this title. So glad you took the time to test a month without supplements.

I’d always thought that being more active would lead to a higher metabolism, allowing you to eat more food, allowing you to get more total micronutrients out of the same quality of diet. I would have thought that your active lifestyle would have been a boon for micronutrients. That was just my assumption, though. You’re raising a good point.

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

I’m definitely glad that I did this experiment. Although there were moments when I thought, “Why are you doing this to yourself?” when I was feeling like I needed a nap and I wasn’t as energized in the afternoon. Definitely eye opening that even with my high quality nutrient rich diet and gentle calorie surplus that my energy wasn’t nearly what it has been prior to this experiment. I’m looking forward to reporting back on the re-introduction of supplements a little bit at a time.

I REALLY like this video topic. Knowing the pros and cons is great information. But regardless, you don’t let it stop you from achieving fitness goals. You STILL make a difference in our lives.💪🙏

I’m looking forward to the experience this month and can’t wait to report back.

Hey Scott, have you ever tried adding a fresh egg or two in your morning shake? I’m cutting out protein powder due to the cost. I have not mixed one in with kefir though. Lately I’ve been doing 8oz raw milk, 2 eggs, dash of Mexican vanilla, and a sprinkle of cinnamon…it’s like eggnog but you can mix it up with any flavors you wish.

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

I have not tried adding egg to my shakes. I may be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure that you get more nutrients from the egg when you cook it. I’ll have to confirm that. Also, I know that the cost of protein powder has gone up, but for the equivalent amount of eggs It’s probably pretty darn close. Same for Greek yogurt and many other sources of protein.

OK i have a ton of experience on you here:) You are detoxing all the poisons that go with supplementation. My sister and her husbands are both docs and we discuss this alot. you need to go 6 months or more supplement free and you will reap the rewards..Im supplement free for decades I feel amazing. Again 30 days is nothing!!!!

      • chris rocco

oh and btw i just turned 54 and gains have never been better but I have some secrets up my sleeve…I DO NOT TRAIN 5 OR 6 DAYS A WEEK….thanks for all the help!!!!

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

I appreciate the insights. Detoxing from poisons in supplements eh? That’s a first for me

      • chris rocco

@Lose Fat Get Jacked yes the poisons are in the supplements…will send you the research…how the make the supplements…..maca obviously is not a supplement its a food but all vitamins etc every pill lots of toxins are used ..oils to construct it…Thats why I dont use them at all

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

@chris rocco send the research my way and any info on why you feel 6 months is necessary to supposedly detox our body from these poisons.

Just 2 days back into supplementing with vitamin D3+K2 and magnesium and my energy is already restored. I have a feeling that because I work hard and play hard that even though I consume a fantastic whole natural and nutrient rich diet, that I still need more. And it’s not to say that I didn’t have energy during the past 30 days. I had way more energy that 99% of the population. It’s just that with some supplementation I’m off the charts on top of my game and ridiculously unstoppable.

I can’t live without strong caffeine!!!!

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

I haven’t needed a caffeine supplement in a while, but damn do I ever love my coffee.

    • Stefan Pohl

Great video. I see in the comments that I’m not the only one cutting out protein powder due to increased costs. I also stopped taking creatine. Here in Germany the price quadrupled within the last months.

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

Yes, the price of creatine more than quadrupled here as well. Everything is going up. All of my groceries are more expensive now than ever. Crazy times.

Yeah very useful and understandable information 👍 straight to the point 👉 thanks ! I’m taking around 15 pills 💊 of supplements per day for a couple of years ! In fact I do have some concerns about this ! I think it may affect my liver or other organs, I don’t know 😕 However I feel great ,I am a healthy old man more than 70! I only have some sleeping interruptions during the night maybe due to my age, so before going to bed I take ashwagandha, magnesium glycinate, 3mg melatonin plus gaba and some 🌿other herbs (total around 7 pills 💊 ) Daytime:10.000IU D3, 100mcg K2, Q10, Omega3,B complex, Prostate supplements, NR, ALA,Glutathione and Berberine, HA HA so much !!! Thank you very much for your patience 🙏

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

Thank you so much for sharing. You’re taking some really good supplements there. D3+K2, magnesium, and ashwagandha are staples for me, that I’m looking forward to getting back to using now that this 30 day experiment is over. Feeling great and healthy is what matters most. Keep living your life to the fullest.

I dropped all supps around 2 years ago and noticed no difference in physique.
      So are they really necessary?

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

I didn’t notice a change in my physique, but I did notice a change in energy. So for me, I find benefit in some supplementation. But if you aren’t noticing a difference in your physique, your energy, or your overall well-being, you may not find value in supplementation. Some supplements such as vitamin D3, magnesium, omega 3 fish oil may not cause a noticeable impact on you, but can still be great for your overall health including immune system, cognitive function, etc.

Recently stumbled on your channel, my tongkat Ali and Fodgia agrestis is about to arrive, loved your approach and breakdown. Have you ever tried athletic greens (AG1) and/or are fermented foods part of your diet? It seems to be the new cutting edge of easily modifiable health for systemic benefits and id love to see your objective breakdown of the subjective affects and results over time. Peace brother ✌

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

Great timing! I’m excited to hear how your body responds to the tongkat ali and fadogia agrestis. I’ve never used Athletic Greens, but I’ve been adding 1 cup of homemade kefir (fermented food) to my daily breakfast shake every day. It’s had a very positive impact on my gut health. You’ll see that shake in many of my vlogs.

      • SirSpectral

@Lose Fat Get Jacked Update, labido but moreso my energy has noticably increased. I’ve begun working out again and have broken through my writers block and been able to continue progressing in my business. Big W’s

    • Grey Wolf Fitness

I’m with ya Scott I spend a fortune on supplements so I’ve tried some of the cheaper brands here in the UK plus I’ve been trying Turmeric for it’s anti inflammatory effects MINT

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

Thanks a million for sharing my brother. I’ve been wanting to add tumeric and curcumin to my meals for a while and not sure why I keep forgetting. With some of the recent revelations about the lack of quality control with supplements, I’m focused on only purchasing from companies that use the best testing methods and are transparent with what’s actually in their supplements. I worry about what’s in the cheaper brands. At the same time I’m only going to be using supplements that actually benefit me and produce the benefits that actually matter to me. I just want to feel healthy and vibrant. I don’t need to break any bench pressing records 😁 I appreciate you BIG TIME my brother!

      • Grey Wolf Fitness

@Lose Fat Get Jacked I’ve looked into where some of these cheaper brands get there product and a lot of the time it’s one manufacturer doing it for a lot of different company’s just under different labels MINT

Hey Scott, my oh my your channel is so underrated! Once again you provide us with such great information and insight!
I’ve always be reluctant to use creatine (in the 90s it was classified as doping, and more recently so much fuss about possible hair loss has been made about it) but I’ll give it a shot, 5g a day from what I have seen on average.
Again many thanks for your videos, they really really do help me on two counts: information and motivation. 💪😎

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

More and more positive benefits are now being discovered about daily consumption of creatine monohydrate in regards to brain and heart health. It’s a staple of mine. Thank you so much for the kind words and positive feedback. I too think my channel is underrated 😁 It’s growing slow and steady and I’m so glad to hear that so many people are finding value in my content.

    • Jason Chapman

Great video!! I just got back on D3 after a few month hiatus, I feel better already!!!

    • Jay clarke

I take supplements that tend to work more on a cellular level, coq10, ribos, B complex and d3 & k2( 2-3 ) days a week, fish oil everyday, some supple I don’t feel you need to take every day, I would only take water soluble supplements on a daily basis

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

Thanks for sharing your valuable insights. Much appreciated.

    • NGU Fitness Motivation

I do this once a year as well with NO supplements for a month.

      • Lose Fat Get Jacked

Awesome! What’s the experience been like for you? I can’t say that I’ll ever do this again. At least with supplements such as vitamin D3+K2 and magnesium.
